Illuminate – A Singers’ Showcase

Illuminate - A Singers' Showcase

Illuminate offers a wonderful evening of amateur theatre and music, featuring a series of songs and dramatic acts which will weave a story about life, love and art, presented by the students of DAPA. The show promises to deliver an evening of “illuminating” entertainment for young and old.

Illuminate Programme

The programme for the evening includes renditions of:

✅ Girl in 14G (made famous by theatre legend Kristina Chenoweth)

✅ Gimme, Gimme (from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie)

✅ The Alto’s Lament (a comic song-presentation of an alto’s grievance against the industry)

✅ Pulled (from the Addam’s Family musical)

✅ Fever (a jazz staple, made famous by Peggy Lee, Bette Middler, Madonna and Beyonce)

✅ A dazzling rendition of Bernstein’s famous (or infamous) “Glitter and be Gay” from the musical Candida which strikes fear in the heart of every aspiring soprano

✅ And other pop, jazz and musical theatre show stoppers that are guaranteed to bring the roof down with an evening of scintillating entertainment. Also watch out for a few surprises that we’re keeping under the hat for now (wink)!

All singers will perform live without pre-recorded or artificial vocal support – this is 100% unadulterated live amateur theatre. Musical accompaniment will be provided via orchestrated backing tracks and/or live piano and guitar.

There’s no Business like Show Business

The David Academy of Performing Arts tries to get involved in many varied and unique performances throughout the year, but performing in theatre with the magic of the stage, music and lighting is an incredible experience and one we are all very grateful for. It’s why….

“There’s no business like show business, like no business I know.

Everything about it is appealing, everything the traffic will allow.

Nowhere can you get that happy feeling, when you are stealing that extra bow.

There’s no people like show people, they smile when they are low!

Yesterday they told you that you’d not go far, that night you open and there you are,

Next day on your dressing room they’ve hung a star,
Let’s go on with the show!”
